What is Pilates?

Pilates was invented nearly 100 years ago in Germany by Joseph H. Pilates

Pilates is a mind/body conditioning exercise programme which can usually be practiced by everyone, including those wanting to improve general posture, body alignment, general fitness, strength, flexibility and balance. It is also important in the recovery from injuries. Pilates works by activating the deep abdominal and spinal muscles. The classes will help you become more body aware and bring your learning into everyday functional movements, helping you prevent pains and poor posture in the future, by firstly learning how to position the body into alignment and activating the deep core of support muscles (YOUR DEEP ABDOMINAL, SPINAL AND PELVIC FLOOR MUSCLES). This is essential for maintaining correct posture, good body control and body awareness.
